*** This is the first part in a series that aim to outline scholarship opportunities for undergraduate students.

It’s enrollment season once again for most universities in the Philippines. With tuition fees increasing every year, it’s becoming more difficult for financially disadvantaged students to pursue their degrees in reputable universities. Thanks to the additional budget for education, tuition fees in State Colleges and Universities are now subsidized, with priority given to poor but academically able students (read about it here). However, the budget does not cover miscellaneous fees and other school-related fees, which account to almost 2/3 of total school expenses.

The good news is this: there is an abundance of scholarship programs that exceptional students can apply for. In this article, we will be outlining some of the scholarship opportunities in the Philippines’ Big 4: University of the Philippines Diliman (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), and University of Santo Tomas (UST).
